The Giro d’Italia reignites the passion: with the GS Alpi, the legend is pedaling at the 2026 Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo

While professional champions compete on the roads of the Corsa Rosa, the organizing committee led by Vittorio Mevio invites enthusiasts to become protagonists on the peaks that have made history: from June 30th to July 5th, a week of all-out cycling including “Mythical Passes,” gravel, and the crowning glory of the Granfondo.

The Giro d’Italia has begun, the pink caravan is crossing the country, and the enthusiasm of enthusiasts reaches its peak. It is in this festive atmosphere and celebration of heroic cycling that the GS Alpi, with the support of the Ponte di Legno-Tonale Tourist Consortium, throws down the gauntlet to all amateur cyclists: to move from the role of spectators to that of protagonists.

The Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo 2026, scheduled for Sunday July 5th, is not just a race, but the culmination of a week dedicated to those who want to experience the spirit of great achievements. “Cycling where history was made” isn’t just a slogan, but the reality of an event that this year becomes even more inclusive thanks to the “Passi Mitici” initiative. It’s a way to cycle through history, as the Mortirolo Pass will become “Cima Pantani” in the coming months.

“Passi Mitici”: the Giro’s roads, exclusively for bicycles

In collaboration with the Department of Sport and Tourism of the Valle Camonica Mountain Community, the GS Alpi promotes a “gentle” and safe experience of the great climbs. For a week, the roads that witnessed the exploits of Pantani, Gotti, and the great champions of the past will be closed to motorized traffic, reserved exclusively for cyclists:

  • June 30: Vivione Pass
  • July 2: Montecampione (scene of the legendary Pantani-Tonkov challenge)
  • July 5: Gavia and Mortirolo (as part of the Granfondo)

A unique opportunity to climb in complete safety and enjoy the beauty of the Valle dei Segni, without the hassle of the stopwatch for those who prefer pure cycle touring.

Gravel Experience: the wild soul of the Alps

For those seeking adventure off the beaten track, the Gravel Experience Gavia–Mortirolo (July 4-5) offers an immersive two-day experience. From the dirt roads of the Mortirolo to the high-altitude panoramas, with the option of choosing between the comfort of a hotel or the charm of a night in a tent, always accompanied by professional guides. A journey into the soul of cycling that blends effort and conviviality.

Sunday, July 5: The Granfondo Challenge

The highlight will see athletes compete on three courses that need no introduction:

  • Long (141 km): The ultimate “Combo.” Gavia Pass and the Mortirolo from the legendary Mazzo di Valtellina side.
  • Medium (110 km): Gavia and Mortirolo from the Grosio side.
  • Short (45 km): The ascent of the Gavia Pass with a high-altitude finish, for those who want to experience the thrill of the summit.

Registration is open.
