A week of festivities in Ponte di Legno comes to a close with the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo

The 2026 Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo was the final major event of a week-long celebration of cycling in Ponte di Legno. Thanks to the partnership between GS Alpi and the Pontedilegno-Tonale Consortium, the “Passi Mitici” initiative took place this week, allowing many cyclists to ride up the Vivione and Montecampione climbs on roads completely closed to traffic. Yesterday also saw the inauguration of the Gavia Pass bike-and-pedestrian route, which will allow cyclists tackling the climb from the Ponte di Legno side to avoid the unlit tunnel located a few kilometers from the summit.

The Gavia and Mortirolo Gravel Experience was also a resounding success, literally selling out. Thanks to the collaboration with Boost Events, a large number of cyclists were able to enjoy a wild adventure on their bikes, starting on Saturday, spending the night on the Mortirolo Pass (with the option of choosing between a night in a tent or a mountain hut), and culminating today with the return to Ponte di Legno. This success, both in terms of numbers and participant satisfaction, will encourage the organizing committee to hold the Gravel Experience again, with the goal of increasingly meeting participants’ expectations.

The turnout of cyclists from abroad was particularly significant and large. Riders from the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Belgium were determined not to miss the event.

As usual, the race was fiercely contested among the riders vying for overall victory on the medium and long courses, while the short course consisted solely of the climb up the Gavia, followed by a non-competitive return leg. Andrea Zampatti, the sports councilor for the municipality of Ponte di Legno, was also present at the awards ceremony. Celebrating at the finish line of the 2026 Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo was Aldo Caiati, riding for Team Oop!-Xanten, who managed to finish ahead of Matteo Testa of Morotti Bike. Antonio Monella (Oop! Sport e Fitness) took third place on the podium.

Laura Bertone (Rodman Team) won the women’s medium course, ahead of Federica Spessot (Fontanari) and Sara Massarutto (Vibrata Bike).

There was fierce international competition on the long course, where Stefano Cecchini claimed the victory. The Fire&Ice Livigno rider finished ahead of Patrick Facchini (Team Biemme Garda), while Belgian Sven Van Luyck rounded out the podium.

On the women’s long course, Beatrice Blanc (Rodman Team) took the win ahead of Anna Cadorin (Team Staweld Buzzolan). Sarah Palfrader (Team Ta-Tor) finished in third place.
