The 2026 edition of the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo is destined to go down in history as one of the amateur cycling events truly open to all. The GS Alpi, thanks to the significant support of the Ponte di Legno-Tonale Tourist Consortium, will organize a week of cycling dedicated to all cycling enthusiasts. It’s a way to experience the charm of the Alpine passes together, not only competitively but also, and above all, following the dictates of true cycle tourism.
For one week, from June 30th to July 5th, Ponte di Legno will become the beating heart of the Alps and the setting for the most important moments in world cycling history. The Granfondo remains the main event of the event, its most anticipated moment, but in the days leading up to it, there will be one big celebration open to all, the “Passi Mitici.”
As reported on the website https://www.passimitici.it/, the initiative, promoted by the Department of Sport and Tourism of the Valle Camonica Mountain Community, in collaboration with the municipalities and tourism operators of the area, was created to promote cycling tourism and the gentle enjoyment of the scenic beauty of the Valle dei Segni.
Specifically, the climbs that will be tackled with roads closed to traffic are as follows:
- June 30, Passo del Vivione,
- 2 July, Montecampione,
- July 5, Gavia Pass and Mortirolo Pass (part of the Granfondo).
Registration is not required to participate in “Passi mitici.” This is not a sporting event or a race, but simply the opportunity for exclusive use by bicycles, without interference from motorized vehicles, of the roads leading to the mythical passes of Valle Camonica. Registration is required only to participate in the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo.
GRAVEL EXPERIENCE – For off-road enthusiasts, registration is also open for the 2026 Gavia–Mortirolo Gravel Experience, with the option of enjoying a full two-day event or riding just Saturday or Sunday. The adventure begins in Ponte di Legno with a long climb towards the Mortirolo, along dirt roads, valleys, and views that open up as you ascend. Once at the top, you can choose the comfort of a hotel or the wild atmosphere of a tent.
The next day, we start from the top, with a scenic cable car ride that leads to another dive into the ridges before returning to Ponte di Legno. The arrival is a celebration, with toasts and smiles, and the satisfaction of having experienced something special. Two professional guides will always accompany the group, one in front and one at the back, so no one is left behind. It’s more than an event: it’s a journey into the soul of cycling. Sign up, ride, become a legend.
THE GRANFONDO – Sunday, July 5th, it’s the turn of the Granfondo. As usual, there will be three routes available to cyclists. The long 141 km route includes the climb of the Gavia and Mortirolo Passes from the legendary slopes that begin in Mazzo di Valtellina, where epic pages in the history of the Giro d’Italia have been written. The medium route is 110 km long and, in addition to climbing the Gavia, includes the ascent of the Mortirolo from Grosio, while the short route, 45 km long, includes the ascent of the Gavia, with a high-altitude finish and a return to Ponte di Legno outside the race.
