The Alpi Sports Group is pleased to announce important news for the 2026 cycling season: the iconic Granfondo Laigueglia and Granfondo Gavia Mortirolo will both open to gravel cycling events, marking a significant step towards expanding the cycling offerings and enhancing the territories hosting these events.
Two events, one philosophy
Granfondo Laigueglia, scheduled for February 22, 2026, will host a gravel event alongside the historic 112 km road race. The gravel event, whose technical details are still being finalized, was created with the aim of offering all enthusiasts the opportunity to experience Laigueglia with a more exploratory and slower approach, typical of the gravel world. The classic road race, as per tradition, will maintain its tried-and-tested program, starting in the morning and awarding prizes in the early afternoon.
The Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo, scheduled for July 5, 2026 in Ponte di Legno, a historic event of major Alpine climbs, introduces for the first time the “Gravel Experience Gavia e Mortirolo”: a two-day gravel experience through unique mountain landscapes in the shadow of the Gavia and Mortirolo Passes. At the same time, the classic road granfondo will offer routes of varying distances (long, medium, and short), allowing participants to ride on the roads where the history of the Giro d’Italia was written, including roads entirely closed to traffic.
Both events are part of the 2026 calendar of the Prestigio di Cicloturismo circuit, confirming the sporting and tourism value of GS Alpi events.
The gravel philosophy: slowness and discovery
In the words of Vittorio Mevio, patron of GS Alpi: “Gravel events are a perfect way to enhance the local area. The philosophy of gravel is that of slow cycling, which allows everyone to see the landscape with different eyes aboard their bike. We want to offer experiences that combine sport, nature, and discovery, making these places unforgettable for every participant, from the most experienced to enthusiasts who love to experience cycling in freedom.”
Gravel Programs
The Laigueglia gravel program is currently being finalized and will be announced in detail soon, with routes designed to showcase the variety of landscapes and dirt roads of the Ligurian Riviera. Meanwhile, the Granfondo road program will follow the established, successful formula, with meeting point, start, race pack, refreshments, and awards.
The Gravel Experience Gavia and Mortirolo, scheduled for Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th, 2026, in Ponte di Legno, is designed for those who want to experience a complete mountain immersion, pedaling on dirt roads and gravel roads amidst unique panoramas. The event unfolds over two consecutive days, offering a mix of athletic commitment, exploration, conviviality, and discovery of the mountain landscape. The experience includes two full days of gravel riding immersed in nature, with selected routes that allow you to discover the most evocative corners of the Alpine region, including iconic passes, gravel trails, and secondary roads. You can ride both days, just Saturday or just Sunday, with the option of sleeping at altitude, even in the wild mode.
