On Sunday 22 June 2025, the Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo will write a new page in the history of amateur cycling. The two legendary Alpine passes – the Gavia and the Mortirolo – will be completely closed to vehicular traffic during the race, guaranteeing participants four hours of safety and absolute freedom on two of the most iconic climbs in the history of the Giro d’Italia. The Mortirolo was touched by the pink caravan during the Bormio stage, during the last week of the race. An extraordinary commitment, made possible thanks to the organization of the GS Alpi, the tourist consortium Pontedilegno – Tonale and the collaboration with the local authorities, to offer a unique and completely safe experience to all cyclists.
The traffic closures will be organized as follows:
  • Passo Gavia: road closed from 7:00 to 11:00
  • Mortirolo: road closed from 10:00 to 14:00
A complex logistical operation that will transform the event into a true celebration of cycling and high-altitude cycling.
The Granfondo will have its headquarters in Ponte di Legno, for the first time the location of both the start and finish of the event. In the heart of the Alta Valle Camonica, thanks to the precious collaboration with the Pontedilegno-Tonale Tourist Consortium, you will breathe the atmosphere of the great climbs of the Giro, in a landscape context unique in the world. The three routes – short (46 km), medium (136 km) and long (148 km) – cross the spectacular Alpine scenery of Adamello, Gavia and Mortirolo, on roads immersed in nature, completely free from cars, to maximize the pleasure of cycling.

Two legendary climbs

The Gavia Pass, with its breathtaking views at over 2,600 meters, is an absolute symbol of epic cycling. Its climb, with hairpin bends that wind through glacial valleys and refuges suspended in the silence of the high mountains, will be the absolute protagonist of the time trial of the short route and will be the first test for all those who will tackle the other routes.

The Mortirolo, considered one of the toughest climbs in Europe, is the perfect challenge for climbers: dizzying gradients and wild scenery for those who choose the medium and long routes.

New for 2025: Rock&River Randonnée

The big news for 2025 is the introduction of the Rock&River Randonnée Ponte di Legno – Tonale, a non-competitive event organized in collaboration with EPICDAYS.CC. Open to all bike lovers, this randonnée will take place on June 21 and 22, 2025, offering three routes suitable for different levels of preparation:

  • 50 km with 1,100 m of altitude difference: for those who want an accessible but stimulating adventure. 90 km with 2,200 m of altitude difference: a challenging journey through nature and history.
  • 130 km with 3,200 m of altitude difference: an epic challenge to be experienced in one or two days, exploring every corner of this magical land.

The commemorative jersey and the finisher medal

The Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo 2025 will provide a commemorative jersey of the event. Made by the company Veloplus, a clothing brand based in Lombardy, the jersey is made with a very simple and impactful design: the white color recalls the purity of the mountains and the places where the race passes; the blue, to symbolize the sky, a reference to the slogan of the race organized by the Gs Alpi, “Where eagles dare”; finally, the green logo of the event, a distinctive feature that has been present for over twenty years. In addition, a finisher medal has been created for all competitors.
