On Wednesday 28 May, the 2025 Giro d’Italia will pass through the roads that, a few weeks later, will be the protagonists of the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo. The historic amateur cycling event organized by GS Alpi is changing its headquarters: from this year the start and finish of the three routes will be in Ponte di Legno, in the heart of the Alta Valle Camonica. One of the most fascinating races on the national scene, which every year offers two legendary climbs of the Corsa Rosa, the scene of epic challenges between the greats of cycling. The new logistical structure is made possible thanks to the invaluable support of the Pontedilegno-Tonale Tourist Consortium.
On the roads of the Giro d'Italia
On the occasion of the seventeenth stage of the Giro, the San Michele all’Adige–Bormio, the professional group will pass through many of the towns touched by the Granfondo. Ponte di Legno is preparing to welcome the race, which will tackle the Mortirolo Pass from the Monno side and then finish in Bormio, another key center for the Granfondo. Along the route there will also be Vezza d’Oglio and other spectacular views of the Alps, which amateur cyclists will find again in the race on Sunday 22 June.
Three routes for all tastes
The Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo 2025 will offer three routes immersed in the Alpine landscapes of Adamello and Gavia, with roads closed to traffic to ensure maximum safety. The short route, 46 km long, includes a timed climb to the Gavia Pass, the only timed section for the classification, followed by a controlled descent towards Ponte di Legno. The medium route, 136 km long, includes the climb to Gavia, the descent to Bormio and Grosio and the ascent of Mortirolo, before returning to Ponte di Legno. The long route, measuring 148 km, features the Gavia followed by the more challenging side of Mortirolo from Mazzo di Valtellina, with a return through Monno and Vezza d’Oglio.
The commemorative jersey
For the occasion, the Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo 2025 has announced the main gadget of the race pack: the commemorative jersey of the event.
Made by the company Veloplus, a clothing brand based in Lombardy, the jersey is made with a very simple and impactful design:
the white color recalls the purity of the mountains and the places where the race passes;
the blue, symbolizing the sky, a reference to the slogan of the race organized by the Gs Alpi, “Where eagles dare”;
finally, the green logo of the event, a distinctive feature that has been present for over twenty years.
