Countdown to one of the most anticipated events in the amateur cycling calendar: Sunday 22 June sees the return of the Granfondo Gavia Mortirolo, an iconic event that combines sporting passion, breathtaking landscapes and legendary challenges. There, where eagles dare, on the most important peaks where epic pages of cycling history have been written: the Gavia Pass, with its 2621 meters of altitude, and the Mortirolo, with its 1852 meters of altitude, are to be tackled.

Everything is ready in Ponte di Legno, the new departure and arrival location for the 2025 edition, which will welcome around 1000 participants from all over Italy and abroad. An important logistical change that has further enriched the event, strengthened by the collaboration with the Consorzio Pontedilegno-Tonale.

Roads closed to traffic for 4 hours

Safety and entertainment will be guaranteed thanks to the total closure of roads to traffic for 4 hours: the two legendary Alpine passes – the Gavia and the Mortirolo – will be completely closed to vehicular traffic during the race, guaranteeing participants four hours of safety and absolute freedom on two of the most iconic climbs in the history of the Giro d’Italia. The Mortirolo was touched by the pink caravan during the Bormio stage, during the last week of the race. The traffic closures will be organized as follows: Gavia Pass, road closed from 7:00 to 11:00. Mortirolo, road closed from 10:00 to 14:00.

The three routes

The three routes – short (46 km), medium (136 km) and long (148 km) – cross the spectacular Alpine scenery of Adamello, Gavia and Mortirolo, on roads immersed in nature, completely free from cars, to maximize the pleasure of cycling.

The short route of the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo 2025 includes 46 km in total, starting in Ponte di Legno and arriving uphill on the Gavia. For the purposes of the final classification, only the time taken in the Gavia time trial will be considered, therefore the time that each cyclist will take from the beginning to the end of the climb. From the summit, it will then be possible to descend to Ponte di Legno in complete safety with the road closed to traffic.

The medium route instead measures 136 km. In this case, it will be a real race from the first kilometer. The cyclists will tackle the Gavia Pass, then descend to Bormio and Grosio, where the climb of the Mortirolo will begin. From the summit of the pass, the descent will then take place to Monno and Vezza d’Oglio to return to Ponte di Legno.

Finally, the queen of the Granfondo Gavia and Mortirolo 2025, the long route. A race for true climbers: here too, after the start, the climb will take the riders up towards the Gavia Pass, but the descent will take them to Mazzo di Valtellina, a place famous in the cycling world for indicating the start of the toughest side of the Mortirolo. At the summit, the cyclists will have covered 113 km: from there, the descent will take place to Monno and Vezza d’Oglio to reach Ponte di Legno. This route measures a total of 148 km.

The commemorative jersey

The Granfondo Gavia e Mortirolo 2025 will provide the celebratory jersey of the event in the race pack. Made by the company Veloplus, a clothing brand based in Lombardy, the jersey is made with a very simple and impactful design: the white color recalls the purity of the mountains and the places where the race passes; the blue, to symbolize the sky, a reference to the slogan of the race organized by the Gs Alpi, “where eagles dare”; finally, the green logo of the event, a distinctive feature that has been present for over twenty years.
